Goal Mode

Keep a session pursuing a defined outcome across turns.

Enable a sustained goal

In New Research, open the settings menu and enable Goal Mode before starting. The first objective becomes the goal for that session. Goal Mode tracks whether work is active, complete, or blocked across turns and stores that state with the run. You can still send follow-ups; the agent uses them as authoritative steering for the same goal.

Use a concrete, testable outcome: for example, identify and validate an in-scope trust-boundary failure, or document why a specific path is ruled out. A broad request can lead to broad work, so name the authorized scope and the evidence you expect.

  1. Enable Goal Mode in New Research.
  2. Write the outcome and start the session.
  3. Review progress, evidence, and any stated blocker after each turn.
  4. Send a follow-up to narrow or redirect the goal; mark it complete only when the intended outcome is actually reached.
