Providers

Connect a model provider and set the lead model defaults.

Connect a provider

Settings → Providers supports OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Z.ai, OpenRouter, and custom OpenAI Chat Completions compatible endpoints. The available authentication method depends on the provider. Subscription sign-in is shown where implemented; API keys are stored using the operating system's encrypted storage and retained by the host process. Custom endpoints can provide a base URL, optional key, context window, and token limit; Beale fetches their model catalog from /models.

Review the provider's cybersecurity use requirements in the app before connecting. A Beale acknowledgement is not an entitlement to a provider program or an override of its policies. OpenAI OAuth credentials stay on the host.

Select models

  1. Add or sign in to a provider in Settings → Providers.
  2. Choose the default Lead provider and its model and reasoning settings.
  3. In New Research, review the selected provider and model for that specific session.
  4. If using collaboration, enable the models and roles you want available to subagents.
