THE BEALE HANDBOOK

Runbooks

Save a repeatable research procedure with its cells and execution results.

Notebook-backed procedures

A runbook is stored as a Jupyter nbformat 4 notebook with Markdown, code, or raw cells. The detail view shows cells, purpose, authors, output, and latest execution status. Setup, runtime, and cleanup features mark which cells are active. A runbook can serve as a reproduction procedure linked from a finding.

From an active app-server session, run the whole notebook, one code cell, or a selected cell range. Supported cells execute on the configured host or VM executor and record outputs and errors. Stored output is evidence to review, not a guarantee that a result reproduces on a changed target.

Run safely

  1. Read every executable cell and its target or executor settings.
  2. Choose the intended range and confirm the active session and execution environment.
  3. Run it, then inspect exit status, output, timestamps, and proof target.
  4. Link the relevant execution to the finding and report; update the procedure when the environment changes.
